The campaign to protect Lake Cowal from the development of a cyanide leach gold mine on New South Wales' largest inland lake is quickly mounting. Court action, campaign video and Sacred Fire gathering at the Lake will all be in full swing in Mid-November.

Lake Cowal, in Central West NSW, is the "heartland of the Wiradjuri Nation". Wiradjuri Traditional Owners are carrying the Sacred Fire to Lake Cowal where Canada's Barrick Gold has plans for a cyanide leach gold mine.

The future of the Lake Cowal Gold project is in question as four bore licences that are needed to provide water to operate the proposed cyanide leach gold mine at Lake Cowal have all lapsed.

Urgent Action Needed To Address Climate Change, Says Rally

Lismore: Thursday, 4 October 2002: A report launched today presents a radical new vision for sustainable agriculture in Australia.
The report, by the Friends of the Earth, describes a vision of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), in which consumers purchase a share of the harvest up front, thereby sharing the risks of food production with farmers.

50 Years of an Atomic Outback
Today marks the 50th Anniversary of the first atomic weapons test on Australian soil. October 4th 1952 saw the first British atmospheric test at Monte Bello Island off the Western Australian coast and in 1953 testing was relocated to sites at Maralinga and Emu Field on mainland Australia.
