A research report released today by environment group Friends of the Earth shows that the financial cost to governments and the community in Victoria from natural disasters was $19.937 billion dollars over a ten year period from 2003 to 2013.

Urgent protest over approval of dredging in Great Barrier Reef
Environment Minister Greg Hunt has done the unthinkable and approved 3 million cubic metres of dredging at Abbot Point in the Great Barrier Reef.
He has put the interests of coal companies ahead of the Reef, and ignored the concerns of scientists, fishermen and tourism operators.

January 22, Melbourne - Organic farmer Steve Marsh will soon face his neighbour in the WA Supreme Court in a landmark case to protect his right to keep growing genetically modified (GM) free food. The matter is due to start on the 10th February 2014 and is scheduled to run for three weeks.

The ACCC has refused to take action against two sunscreen ingredient manufacturers, Antaria and Ross Cosmetics, for misleading conduct, despite clear evidence that the two companies sold nanomaterials as ‘non nano’ and ‘nanoparticle free’. Some of Australia’s biggest sunscreen brands were misled by Antaria and Ross and repeated their non-nano claims - including products such as Cancer Council Classic, Invisible Zinc Junior and Body sunscreens, Coles Sports and Woolworths Clear Zinc.

The ‘ashes’ of the Australian Government’s conscience on climate change were presented to the nation’s High Commission in London today by Friends of the Earth (Monday 18 November 2013). The award was in recognition of Australia’s mounting opposition to international efforts to cut carbon emissions at the UN climate summit, currently taking place in Warsaw, Poland.
