Reefwalk 2013

FootPrints for Peace are planning a community walk from Cairns to Gladstone to highlight the impact that coal exports will have on the Great Barrier Reef. The walk is supported by Friends of the Earth and Lock the Gate.

FootPrints for Peace is keen to connect with communities between Cairns and Gladstone to discuss the impact that coal and coal seam gas will have on communities along the east coast.

Instigated by June Norman, great grandmother aged 72 years is determined to use her passion of walking and her desire to leave a good legacy for future generations.

2013 – time to stop the onshore coal and gas industry in Victoria

In 2012, community concern about the threat of new coal and gas operations, especially coal seam gas (CSG), pushed the state government to ban the use of dangerous BTEX chemicals and place a moratorium on the process of fracking for gas.

The moratorium will finish shortly and the government has made it clear it wants to see renewed expansion of the fossil fuel industry.

And our job just got harder - mining magnate Gina Rinehart has now bought into Victorian coal and gas exploration.

Protect Arnhem Land

PROTECT ARNHEM LAND is a campaign to fight offshore exploration, mining and drilling around the entire coastline of the Northern Territory Arnhem Land region.

In August 2012 it came to light that there exists over forty potential petroleum exploration sites off the coast of Arnhem Land.

The people living on this country had not been informed of the submission of such exploration permits nor were they aware of what mining exploration entails.

Support our petition to keep the loggers out of Red Gum National Parks.

The Red Gum forests of Barmah-Millewa - along the banks of Australia's iconic Murray River - are a haven for threatened species and a homeland of deep significance to Indigenous Traditional Owners.

This rich landscape of forests, wetlands, floodplains and woodlands is internationally significant. Together, the Barmah forests, on the Victorian side of the Murray and the Millewa forest, in NSW, comprise the world's largest red gum forest.  The forest is also a RAMSAR listed wetland, supporting globally significant populations of rare and threatened bird species.

around Australia by bike

My name is James Talbot-Kamoen. I am cycling around Australia solo - my bike, my tent, my equipment and plenty of spare tubes for my wheels. I am hoping to spend time on country, and learn what Australia is really about.  Just a few of my plans are to work as a farm hand in different parts of the country, get in some local fishing, spend time in local communities, bring my Goolaburu friend Eric in Broome a signed North Melbourne football jumper, volunteer with a few community groups and get to know the people in Uluru, NT.

FoE Indonesia director beaten and detained

Friends of the Earth is concerned about the arrest of the regional director of WALHI (FoE Indonesia) South Sumatra by the South Sumatra Regional Police on January 29, 2013.

We believe that the arrest and persecution of Anwar Sadat is linked to efforts to assist peasants by WALHI Sumatera Selatan in Betung village, Distric Lubuk Keliat, Ogan Ilir regency, South Sumatra Province. A number of peasants questioned the arrest and the persecution of some peasants, including mosque vandalism by Police, on January 25, 2013
